Usually doesn't work on Google News on Firefox Android #17
Comments
Is this regarding the old Firefox or the new upcoming Firefox for Android? |
It's about the old Firefox. I never tested the new one, both on desktop or mobile. |
I am seeing this issue on the new Firefox on Android, latest nightly. |
I'm not working on Android issues until Mozilla opens a path to allowing extension installations on stable releases again. |
I went to https://news.google.com/topstories?hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US:en with both Firefox 76 Ubuntu and Firefox 68 Android (the latest available version.) I was not logged in into Google both on desktop and on mobile, I never do.
I opened the top 10 articles there on Ubuntu, waiting for each one to fully load before opening the next one. All of them redirected to the HTML version.
I did the same on my phone (Samsung A40, Android 10 but it happens on all my Android devices). The list of articles is different and I didn't click the full coverage links. Only one of them redirected to the HTML version (https://www.thedailybeast.com/waycross-district-attorney-george-barnhill-initially-called-ahmaud-arbery-killing-justifiable-homicide) however all the others redirected when I reloaded the page (I read about reloading in other issues.) Using the back button brings me to Google News, not the AMP page for the article.
This is my experience since a long time with all the national versions of Google News I read. I remember that it used to work much often, almost perfectly, when I started using this addon a long time ago (by the way, thanks!) then it degraded.
I read in an old issue that there were timing issues. Maybe the timing on mobile is different than on desktop or there made changes to the mobile version of Google News. That is the only site I use that links to AMP pages. If there are others I'll be happy to check them too.
