Is that necessary to create a class that inherits MergeVar to update merge variables

Hi,

Is that necessary to create a class that inherits MergeVar and add any additional merge variable fields to update the Merge variable (like FNAME,LNAME etc) using subscribe method.

I have created merge variables dynamically using API. And without creating class can we update the merge variables using subscribe method.
