"The pipe has been ended" for Microsoft.VisualStudio.LanguageServices.IntegrationTests

I am getting System.Runtime.Remoting.RemotingException : Failed to read from an IPC Port: The pipe has been ended. for any test in Microsoft.VisualStudio.LanguageServices.IntegrationTests. The "experimental" VS instance does get created on each test run though, but the tests fail with that message. What am I missing?

And this failure is actually preceded by Could not load file or assembly 'System.IO.Pipelines, Version=5.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=cc7b13ffcd2ddd51' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)
