It can be annoying when testing a large map .
I had huge fps drop when using regions and It tooks some time to figure it out that areaportals were'nt working.
Recompilling with regions off solved the problem.

I'm using Tools 2.0 alpha 8

I'd have to see an example - I used them during Q2PSX' development and I had no issues with APs that I can remember. It might be because regions/antiregions don't remove brush models, and maybe areaportals outside of the map cause weird behavior or something.
