Watch times not tracking #1617

What happened?

With the appropriate setting on, I expect the view count and watch times to increase as I watch more videos from a channel, but they’ve incremented very intermittently for almost a year now. I recently discovered that it seems to never increase either when watched as part of a playlist or queue, but the watch time (and sometimes view count, though that seems less consistent) will increase when I just click a video from, say, my subscriptions tab.

It is possible that it is linked to playback speed. Testing with a video on a channel with a low watch time, I noticed the watch time (in seconds) stopped increasing when I set to 1.5 speed, but restarted immediately when changed back to 1.0 speed. Since I watch my playlists on increased speed but individual videos more often on 1.0 speed, that might be the cause. I’ll do more testing and report my observations.

Seems the time tracking works after all, even if in a playlists, but only on 1x speed, as noted in the previous comment. Not sure the conditions under which the view count increments, though.

This also seems to happen on really long Youtube videos. Just watched a just under 2hr podcast (normal speed) and the watchtime bar only shows about 15-30 mins of watchtime and it popped back up to the top of the feed as if I hadn't watched all of it.

@Zvonimir-FUTO I added more details to reproduce this bug in the comments here. Are you able to reproduce the bug, by any chance?

Hey, thanks for bump I was able to reproduce it but forgot to label it.

@cyberdragon442 You might be referring to something else. I meant the total watch time, as listed on the creators tab. It sounds like you’re talking about the bar on videos showing how much has been watched?
