I checked and everything works correctly. It's not an issue with the gem. Please double-check secret_key.

This code is confusing(readme.md):
provider :vkontakte, ENV['API_KEY'], ENV['API_SECRET']
Probably it can be better:
provider :vkontakte, ENV['VK_API_ID'], ENV['VK_API_SECRET']
