It’s my understanding that John was speaking about his time specifically, and not some far flung date.
Though, I have a problem with prophecy in general as people will often manipulate them to their own perceived advantage. Take the ones who continuously push Nostradamus - they just make it up.
Could this word mean this event? Was he secretly trying to tell us about 9/11?
No. He wasn’t. If you stretch reason and just make wild claims... Still, no.
I think the larger problem of waiting for the fulfillment of such prophecy can become an obsession and distraction from the message of the one known as Jesus.
