Disabling the TTY::Reader

Is there a way to disable the TTY::Reader reader?
I want to do this because i would like a delay with the keypresses but if i set them up how i currently have with the sleep, the key presses you do while it sleeps with be added and posted. A version of my code only working with the TTY model is included.
